BOO! It’s October. Already. Seriously, I know everyone says it all the time but the year really is flying by so quickly! It seemed like just yesterday I was sweating my brains off in my non-air conditioned apartment in the middle of a European heatwave. And now here I am curled up in cozy sweaters and sipping hot coffee like it’s my job!
September yielded a few big changes for our family. Henry started school! He was really excited at first but now asks why he has to go so often. Oh kiddo. This is just the beginning of a lifetime of obligations and schedules! Maddie and I now stay home together during the day. She spent a year in full-time care while I worked last year and while it was really good for her, I also felt sad that we were missing out on the one-on-one time I got with her older brother. She still goes to hourly care every now and then. Let’s be honest, we both need breaks from each other every now and again!
The kids spent a lot of time on their scooters and have gotten quite good! Maddie is the best as she has no fear and almost unconditional trust in herself. I hope she always trusts herself and her instincts as much as she does now while she’s 2. The kids also started gymnastics which means our weekly schedule has become more locked down and routine. And of course I started my photography business! The hardest part has been the business side of it all but I am almost completely caught up with the formalities and I’m starting to book sessions with amazing families!
If you take a good look at my monthly grid, you’ll see most of the photos are simple snapshots. Some are phone selfies, but only maybe 25% are “Instagram worthy”. But this isn’t the point of this project for me. My goal is to tell our story through pictures. This alleviates a lot of the pressure of this project and makes it more fun and achievable. This is why a 365 photo project is approachable! It can be for anyone who wants to document a year in their lives and tell the story of your family. It’s not as hard as it seems!
